Unfortunately, the threat of plant diseases looms, but there are effective remedies available to protect our green companions.

Preventing Plant Diseases with this Remedy: A Few Simple Steps

During the summer period, when temperatures easily exceed 30 degrees Celsius, plants naturally fortify themselves against certain diseases. For instance, downy mildew, a common plant ailment, struggles to develop under such high temperatures. However, the situation changes with the return of rain, leading to a drop in air temperature and an increase in humidity—ideal conditions for the onset of fungal diseases in plants.

Sick plant

While downy mildew primarily affects tomato plants and grapevines, all plants are susceptible to diseases. What can be done to shield our plants from sickness?

The most effective solution is to utilize organic preparations that can be sprayed on the plants, providing robust protection against fungal diseases.

For example, copper sulfate is a widely used product for safeguarding vines, vegetables, and fruit from diseases. This ancient fungicide and bactericide, however, being a chemical product, should be sprayed on plants when temperatures are not excessively high. Ideally, copper sulfate can be applied in autumn and winter. For tomato plants, it is recommended to spray copper sulfate approximately two weeks before the fruits ripen.

Baking soda and milk also serve as excellent protective agents for our plants.

Other elements that can be employed to shield plants from fungal diseases include baking soda and milk. While the use of chemical products is not recommended during fruit ripening, bicarbonate and milk can be safely employed.

Water plants

Although less potent than copper sulfate, these solutions still offer satisfactory protective effects for plants. It is advisable to spray the bicarbonate or milk solution at least once a week. Fruits can be harvested and consumed immediately after spraying. Over time, one will observe the robust and healthy growth of plants, free from the threat of fungal diseases.
