Maintaining orchids in full bloom and optimal health throughout the year may seem challenging, but there’s a remedy you can apply weekly to achieve this beautiful result in your home.

Orchids, belonging to the monocotyledon family with around 25,000 species, are beloved by flower enthusiasts in Spain and Italy. While flourishing in warmer climates, they struggle in excessively cold or arid regions. Orchids come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, with some species reaching impressive lengths or weights.

Orchids are not only visually captivating but also emit delightful fragrances. Commonly associated with the color purple, they come in diverse hues, such as blue symbolizing harmony, pink representing love, and green conveying hope.

Caring for orchids can be intricate, and mistakes in watering, light exposure, or humidity levels can lead to their demise. However, there’s a solution to keep them healthy and vibrant for an entire year by following a simple process once a week.

To maintain the health and vitality of your orchids, consider using Epsom salt, also known as bitter salt. Rich in sulfur and magnesium, Epsom salt serves as an excellent fertilizer for orchid growth. Add half a glass of Epsom salt to your orchid’s soil once a week, ensuring thorough raking to allow absorption.

This application of Epsom salt not only promotes the development of beautiful flowers but also sustains the lushness of your orchid year-round. Alternatively, you can create a mixture at home by adding two tablespoons of Epsom salt to four liters of water. Dissolve the salt, then use a spray bottle to wet both the soil and leaves.

By incorporating this simple ingredient into your orchid care routine, you can enjoy their beauty for up to 12 months. However, remember to consider factors like temperature and light. Orchids thrive at temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, with indirect light being preferable to avoid burning the flowers and leaves. When watering, opt for purified water in the morning, steering clear of tap water rich in limescale. With these considerations and the use of Epsom salt, your orchids can flourish and bring joy throughout the year.
